Shaheed Allah Bux Soomro: The Most Prominent Politician of Sindh, Founder of Sindh Itehad Party, and Proponent of Hindu-Muslim Unity.

Introduction:

The actual name of Shaheed Allah Bux Soomro was Allah Bux Muhammad Umer Soomro who was born in a middle class landlord family back in 1900, in Shikarpur, Sindh. Though his father was a contractor, Allah Bux Soomro showed his intentions towards politics by joining Jacobabad Municipality while he was just 23 years old. He was elected as a member for Local Board Sukkur District when he was just 28 years old. At the age of 30, Allah Bux Soomro became the president of Local Board Government of Sukkur District due to his honesty and exceptional political capabilities.

In 1931, Shaheed Allah Bux Soomro earned a title of "Little Khan Bahadur" due to his abilities to run the public affairs with honesty, passion, and dedication. Later on, Allah Bux Soomro served twice being the Chief Minister of Sindh during 1938 to 1940, and 1941 to 1942. Soomro was the great proponent of the Hindu-Muslim Unity and strongly opposed the division of the Indian Subcontinent. Allah Bux Soomro lost his government in 1942 due to supporting Quit India Movement.

Like Maulana Abu-al-Kalam Azad and Maulana Muhammad Ali Johar, Mr. Allah Bux Soomro didn't agree with the views of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah to divide India into states including a separate homeland for the Muslims of South Asia. GM Syed also mentioned in his book about the clear-cut stand of Shaheed Allah Bux Soomro about the separation of India and Pakistan.

"Soomro responds to GM Syed about Jinnah's beliefs. He says he doesn't agree with Jinnah's idea of splitting the country because Muslims are a separate group based on religion. Soomro thinks this idea goes against Islam, is old-fashioned, and doesn't fit with modern ideas about nationalism." (G. M. Syed, The case of Sindh, p. 203).

In his book, GM Syed has also committed his blunder of supporting Jinnah's views as he couldn't foresee the post partisan consequences. Even after making of Pakistan, Jinnah's ambulance was intentionally moved here and there rather hospitalizing him on time.

Similarly, Liaquat Ali Khan's assassination, Iskander Mirza's hypocritical role, Ayub's martial law, Yahya's oppression over Bengalis, Zia-ul-Haq's incompetency in terms of jumping into the Afghan war against USSR, and Musharraf's surrender reflect that Pakistan is a country to plunder resources and oppress its citizens including denying them basic human rights.

It was Allah Bux Soomro who let Ubaidullah Sindhi come back home by canceling his banishment. No one can even claim that Allah Bux Soomro was corrupt, incompetent, disloyal to his community, or even compromised with British Government due to his personal gains. He also officially returned back all the titles including Khan Bahadur which British government had awarded him. This is why he will always be remembered as one of the most able and loyal politicians in the history of Sindh.

Soomro got killed on May 14, 1943, while riding in a horse-cart in his hometown of Shikarpur. He was 43 when he died. Some people say he was murdered by agents of the All India Muslim League who wanted separation. Others think Hindu extremists did it. 
You may agree or disagree with the political stance of Shaheed Allah Bux Soomro but one thing is quite clear that people of Pakistan are living a miserable life even after the span of 75 years of independence. This reflects that Abu-al-Kalam Azad, Muhammad Ali Johar, Allah Bux Soomro, and many others were probably right by disagreeing the idea of partisan of the Indian Subcontinent. 

We could only made them wrong by letting Pakistani nation to choose its rulers through democracy ie by electing their representatives to run the affairs of the country and frame regional, national, and international policies. Unfortunately, it hasn't been as per the dreams of Jinnah, Iqbal, Liaquat, and others who wanted to build a welfare state for the Muslims of SouthAsia.

Now a days, politics in Pakistan is at the mercy of establishment and few corrupt families who have been plundering the resources of common people. There is no any value given to the votes of the common people of Pakistan. In fact, in the past 75 years, not even once a government has been formed by the real representatives of the people of Pakistan who reached after getting actual votes castes by the people of their respective constituencies.
