AVERAGE, RATIO, & PERCENTAGE IN MATHEMATICS

What is the Average in Mathematics?

The average, also known as the arithmetic mean, is calculated in math by adding a group of numbers and then dividing by their count. The middle value, which is determined by dividing the sum of all the values by the number of values, is the average value in a set of numbers.

At the point when we really want to find the normal of a bunch of information, we include every one of the qualities and afterward partition this all out by the number of values. Averages fall into three broad categories: mode, mean, and median Each of these methods works in a slightly different way and frequently produces typical values that are slightly different.

The average that is used the most often is the mean. Divide the sum of all the values by the number of them to get the mean value.

 What is the Formula for Average?

The mathematical expression for the general average is Average = {Sum of all the quantities (numbers)} ÷ {Total number of quantities (numbers)}.  Let's look at an example to see how it's used.

Example: Babar Azam has respectively scored 45, 68, 78, 105, & 80 runs in his last 5 innings. Find the average score of Babar Azam in his last five innings.

Solution:

Average = {Sum of all the quantities (numbers)} ÷ {Total number of quantities (numbers)}

Average = {45+68+78+105+80} ÷ {5}
= {376} ÷ {5}
= 75.2 Ans

Difference between the Median & Average

We already know that to find the average, the sum of all the individual values is divided by the number of given quantities/values/numbers. However, to find the median, the "middle" value, which is the value for which half of the quantities/values/numbers are larger and half are smaller, is used to determine the median.
Example:

Median = {45+68+105+80} ÷ {78}
= {298} ÷ {78}
= 3.82 Ans

What is the Ratio in Maths?

A ratio is an ordered pair of a and b, written as a:b or (a / b), where b does not equal zero. An equation in which two ratios are set to be equal to one another is called a proportion. If there are five bananas and ten oranges, for instance, you could write the ratio as 5:10. Like fractions, ratios can be fully simplified. Divide all of the numbers in a ratio by the same number until they can no longer be divided to simplify it.

The ratio, in layman's terms, is the number that can be used to express one quantity as a fraction of the others. A ratio can only be compared between two numbers with the same unit. To compare two things, we use ratios. Colon (:) is used as a symbol of ratio and it also means division (÷).

Similarly, five types of financial ratio analysis are frequently used: ratios of earnings, solvency, liquidity, turnover, and profitability.  Let's look at an example to see how ratios are found.

Example: Find the ratio between 5 bananas and 10 oranges.

Solution:

Ratio =  a:b or a/b
         =  5/10
         =  1/2 or (1:2) Ans

What is the Percentage in Maths?

A number or ratio in math that can be expressed as a fraction of 100 is called a percentage. Divide the number by its whole number and then multiply it by 100 if we have to figure out the percentage of that number. Consequently, the percentage represents one part per hundred. Per 100 is what the word "percent" means.

For instance, if Raja Bahar got 75% on a written test, that means he got 75 out of 100 points. In terms of a ratio, it is written as 75:100 rather than 75/100. The percentage is denoted by %.

Example 1: What would be the 20% 0f 25?

Solution:

20% of 25 can be written as 20% × 25

= 20/100 × 25

= 5 Ans

Example 2: Abdul Basit secures 950 marks out of 1100. Find what percentage of marks Abdul Basit has secured?

Solution:

950 marks out of 1100 can be written as 950/1100 × %

= 950/1100 × 100

86.36% Ans

INTRODUCTION TO QUANTITATIVE REASONING COURSE

☀️Introduction to Quantitative Reasoning Course  for B.Ed/BS/BCS/MS/M.Phil Level Students Quantitative Reasoning (QR) also known as quantitative literacy or numeracy, is an ability and an academic skill to use mathematical concepts and procedures.  The literal meaning of the word " Quantitative " is " the discrete or continuous data that is often counted or measured in numerical values ." Whereas, the literal meaning of the word " Reasoning " is " the rational and logical thinking ." QR is a " Habit of Mind " which often involves interpretation of empirical and numerical data, identification of patterns, flow charts, geometrical shapes, and diagrams for identifying real life problems including offering viable solutions.  QR requires logical reasoning and critical thinking to analyse the real life issues and making informed decisions. Undergraduate level learners often require to have some basic knowledge about statistics numeracy, quant...

Numeracy and Measurement: Dimensional analysis, unit conversions, and approximation

Numeracy and Measurement in Quantitative Reasoning - I In the context of the  Quantitative Reasoning (QR) course, numeracy and measurement are treated as the " literacy of numbers ."  It is less about high-level abstract Maths and more about the practical application of logic to real-world data, quantitative research and daily life. In the context of Quantitative Research in Education , these concepts move from simple arithmetic values to the rigorous architecture of a study. They ensure that the data you collect, whether it's test scores, classroom time, or pedagogical approaches, is valid, comparable, and logically sound. 1. Numeracy: The Foundation of Data Interpretation In educational research, numeracy is the ability to interpret numerical data to make " data-driven decisions ." It involves moving beyond the simple calculation to the inference . Standardised Benchmarks: A researcher must understand that a "60 marks" on a job-level written test ...

Important SPSS Tests, Procedures and Purposes

Important SPSS Tests, Procedures & Purposes: A Quantitative Reasoning Course Perspective for Undergraduate Students  SPSS provides a wide range of statistical tests for quantitative research and analysis. It is a popular software used to explore and interpret quantitative data. Many different tests are available, but some of the most common are listed below.  New researchers should familiarise themselves with these important tests before starting their research and analysing results from a quantitative perspective.  While choosing a statistical test in SPSS, consider the number of variables you are analysing, the type of data for each variable (such as Nominal, Ordinal, or Scale ), and whether your data meets the requirements of parametric tests. The following table summarises some common tests in SPSS to help you select the right one for your analysis. Let's now look into these key SPSS tests .
