Science Lab Utilisation and Safety Management

In 21st-century science teaching and learning practices, understanding the dire need for effective science lab utilisation, including safe and secure management, has become the inevitable necessity. In the context of the B.Ed (Hons) Secondary/Elementary programme in Sindh, particularly within the Pedagogy of Science course, the shift towards Active Learning requires an interdisciplinary reimagining of laboratory practices.  Science education must move beyond discipline silos and instead integrate Biological, Physical, Earth, Environmental, and Space Sciences through contextually relevant, low-cost, and eco-conscious approaches. The Low-Cost and Eco-Friendly (LCEF) Tool Kit thus becomes a unifying pedagogical framework, transforming the classroom into a dynamic, inclusive, and inquiry-driven scientific ecosystem. 🌱🔬 An Interdisciplinary Framework for Science Lab Management in Sindh 🛡️ 1. Safety Protocols: A Contextualised Scientific Culture Safety in science classrooms must ref...

Shaheed Allah Bux Soomro: The Most Prominent Politician of Sindh

Shaheed Allah Bux Soomro: Sindh’s Reformist Premier and the Politics of Pre-Partition Contestation Introduction: Sindh under Colonial Political Structure The political landscape of Sindh in the early 20th century was shaped less by democratic ideals and more by colonial administrative control, landed elites, and emerging communal politics. Local governance institutions such as municipal boards and district councils were often training grounds for elite families rather than fully representative bodies. Within this framework emerged Allah Bux Soomro , born in 1900 into a landed but relatively middle-tier influential family in Shikarpur/Jacobabad. His early entry into municipal politics in his early twenties reflects the typical pathway of Sindhi political leadership of that era, rooted in local patronage networks rather than mass electoral mobilisation. Rise in Local Politics: Merit, Networks, and Colonial Recognition Soomro’s rise through the Sukkur District Local Board, eventually be...

Islam in South Asia: Its Beginning & Emergence

Arrival of Islam in South Asia; Its Historical Perspective  Introduction The arrival of Islam in South Asia through Sindh in 711–712 AD under the leadership of Muhammad Bin Qasim is regarded as a major historical development. While popular narratives often describe this event as a religious mission to spread Islam, many historians argue that the invasion was primarily political and economic in nature. Islam later expanded in the region through trade, governance, social interaction, and cultural exchange rather than by military campaigns alone. Religious Background of Sindh Before Islam Before the arrival of Islam, Sindh had experienced several religious and cultural transformations. Historians suggest that Buddhism had a strong presence in the region for centuries before the dominance of Brahmanical Hinduism. Archaeological remains from the Indus Valley Civilisation, particularly at Mohenjo-daro, indicate organised urban life, ritual practices, and places associated with worship a...

LAVISHING YOUTH; A VILLAGE LIFE

Lavishing Youth: A Poem on Village Life Introductory Note Lavishing Youth; a village life (poem) is based on the five stanzas. In this poem, I have reflected on my personal experiences that I came across during my youthful life span at my village (Arain, District Shikarpur, Sindh). Similarly, I have shared my personal experiences and everlasting memories in this poem. Whenever I read this poem, it reminds me of my youth and gets me back to my past life through imagination.   I still remember those unforgettable moments and memories that give me an amazing feeling of compassion and love for my village.   LAVISHING YOUTH; A VILLAGE LIFE Wow! The memory of youth is always overwhelming; Wandering, ambling, sprinting, spoiling & exhaling, Working in fields, grazing the herds, bathing in wells; Missing that village life which causes me screams. Not realizing how slight & meteoric; the lavishing youth is; Though calm, slow, and simple, yet how supersonic it is, Seeing th...

O! THE RIVER INDUS; O! MY DELIGHT

A POEM BY RAJA BAHAR KHAN SOOMRO   Introduction People of Sindh are emotionally attached to the Indus River and so am I. Similarly, the Indus River is the only source of agriculture in Sindh, one of the provinces of modern-day Pakistan. It has a length of about 3120 kilometers (1940 miles). The Indus river starts from the Western Tibet mountainous region and ends at Thatta city by falling into the Arabian Sea.  You will find some amazing things including blind dolphins and tasty fish in the water of the Indus river. additionally, its water is so pure and fresh that keeps agricultural fields (in all the provinces of Pakistan) fertile and productive. In this poem, I have tried to pay my homage including highlighting the past history of this mighty river of Sindh, Pakistan.   O! THE RIVER INDUS; O! MY DELIGHT Thou the Mehran, thee the giant of Himalaya; You the Sindhu, the heart & soul of the Sindh , Thou the Tibetian beauty, thee the Alexandria; You the queen of...
