O! THE RIVER INDUS; O! MY DELIGHT

A POEM BY RAJA BAHAR KHAN SOOMRO

Introduction

People of Sindh are emotionally attached to the Indus River and so am I. Similarly, the Indus River is the only source of agriculture in Sindh, one of the provinces of modern-day Pakistan. It has a length of about 3120 kilometers (1940 miles). The Indus river starts from the Western Tibet mountainous region and ends at Thatta city by falling into the Arabian Sea.

You will find some amazing things including blind dolphins and tasty fish in the water of the Indus river. additionally, its water is so pure and fresh that keeps agricultural fields (in all the provinces of Pakistan) fertile and productive. In this poem, I have tried to pay my homage including highlighting the past history of this mighty river of Sindh, Pakistan.

Indus River

  O! THE RIVER INDUS; O! MY DELIGHT

Thou the Mehran, thee the giant of Himalaya;

You the Sindhu, the heart & soul of the Sindh,

Thou the Tibetian beauty, thee the Alexandria;

You the queen of Kashmir, the king of Karakoram,

    O! The River Indus; O! My Delight

You the Indus, immemorial, immortal, & the mighty;

Glaciers, slopes, hills, plains, and mountains are so sighty;

Blind dolphins, Pomfret, Prawns, & Rohu, the vivacious;

Thy fresh water is so sweet & very much auspicious,

     O! The River Indus; O! My Delight

Thou smile us, feed us, fertile us, submarine us generously;

You thunder, rumble, roar, and growl in July & August sprightly

Thee has borne Alexandrian, Macedonian, and Hellenic invasions;

And yet you still own one of the most ancient civilizations

    O! The River Indus; O! My Delight

You are a hero, the real hero although we pollute you;

You are the thrust but we still desert you;

You are the life and soul so why do we drought you?

We are ashamed and guilty for the way we treat you.

O! The River Indus; O! My Delight

Summary of the Poem

Pakistan is basically an agricultural country where 45% population depends upon agriculture only. Similarly, Sindh is a province where around 70% of its population depends on agriculture directly and indirectly.

Indus River is therefore a great source of living for the people of Sindh in particular. This is why the people of Sindh are emotionally connected with the Indus River as it feeds them and keeps their lands fertile throughout the year.

On the other hand, the Indus River has its own beauty in terms of blind dolphins and other tasty and delicious fishes. Fish catchers heavily rely on the water of the Indus River.

INTRODUCTION TO QUANTITATIVE REASONING COURSE

☀️Introduction to Quantitative Reasoning Course  for B.Ed/BS/BCS/MS/M.Phil Level Students Quantitative Reasoning (QR) also known as quantitative literacy or numeracy, is an ability and an academic skill to use mathematical concepts and procedures.  The literal meaning of the word " Quantitative " is " the discrete or continuous data that is often counted or measured in numerical values ." Whereas, the literal meaning of the word " Reasoning " is " the rational and logical thinking ." QR is a " Habit of Mind " which often involves interpretation of empirical and numerical data, identification of patterns, flow charts, geometrical shapes, and diagrams for identifying real life problems including offering viable solutions.  QR requires logical reasoning and critical thinking to analyse the real life issues and making informed decisions. Undergraduate level learners often require to have some basic knowledge about statistics numeracy, quant...

Numeracy and Measurement: Dimensional analysis, unit conversions, and approximation

Numeracy and Measurement in Quantitative Reasoning - I In the context of the  Quantitative Reasoning (QR) course, numeracy and measurement are treated as the " literacy of numbers ."  It is less about high-level abstract Maths and more about the practical application of logic to real-world data, quantitative research and daily life. In the context of Quantitative Research in Education , these concepts move from simple arithmetic values to the rigorous architecture of a study. They ensure that the data you collect, whether it's test scores, classroom time, or pedagogical approaches, is valid, comparable, and logically sound. 1. Numeracy: The Foundation of Data Interpretation In educational research, numeracy is the ability to interpret numerical data to make " data-driven decisions ." It involves moving beyond the simple calculation to the inference . Standardised Benchmarks: A researcher must understand that a "60 marks" on a job-level written test ...

Important SPSS Tests, Procedures and Purposes

Important SPSS Tests, Procedures & Purposes: A Quantitative Reasoning Course Perspective for Undergraduate Students  SPSS provides a wide range of statistical tests for quantitative research and analysis. It is a popular software used to explore and interpret quantitative data. Many different tests are available, but some of the most common are listed below.  New researchers should familiarise themselves with these important tests before starting their research and analysing results from a quantitative perspective.  While choosing a statistical test in SPSS, consider the number of variables you are analysing, the type of data for each variable (such as Nominal, Ordinal, or Scale ), and whether your data meets the requirements of parametric tests. The following table summarises some common tests in SPSS to help you select the right one for your analysis. Let's now look into these key SPSS tests .
